Phu Quoc ranked second among the “Most amazing islands in Asia”

Phu Quoc has been recognized as the only representative from Vietnam in the top islands worldwide, taking second place among the 10 best islands in Asia, according to the Readers’ Choice Awards 2024.
The award was announced by Condé Nast Traveler magazine in early October. Vietnam was honored in two categories, ranking 15th in the list of the most desirable travel destinations globally. Notably, Phu Quoc has made it to the “World’s Best Islands” list for the third consecutive year, scoring 95.36, an increase from last year’s score of 88.89. This score reflects the opinions of global readers based on criteria such as service quality, scenery, beaches, cuisine, and hospitality.

This year, Phu Quoc’s score elevated it from 8th to 2nd place among the top 10 islands in Asia, just behind Bali, Indonesia, which scored 95.71. Phu Quoc surpassed other competitors like Koh Samui, Phuket (Thailand), Langkawi, and Penang (Malaysia).
Phu Quoc has received significant praise from the global travel community this year. In July, Travel+Leisure named it the second most beautiful island in the world, following the Maldives, at the World’s Best Awards 2024. DestinAsian included Phu Quoc in the top 10 best islands in Asia, while Lonely Planet described it as the top beach destination of the decade. Additionally, the South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo referred to the island as a destination that “satisfies” all five senses.

Beyond relaxation, visitors to Phu Quoc can experience the world’s longest three-wire cable car to Hon Thom, or visit the Sunset Bridge, the best spot to watch sunsets on the island. International shows like “Kiss of the Sea,” combining eight performance art forms, and the upcoming “Symphony of the Sea,” featuring jet skis and traditional Vietnamese elements, have also impressed tourists.
Moreover, the Sunset Town in southern Phu Quoc showcases nightly fireworks, turning the island into a year-round festival destination. Tourists can explore local fishing villages, pepper farms, traditional fish sauce houses, or enjoy local specialties such as “bun quay” and “goi ca trich.”
In the first nine months of this year, Phu Quoc welcomed over 720,000 international visitors, an increase of more than 56% compared to the same period last year, exceeding its annual target by over 8.6%. Phu Quoc is now attracting tourists from over 150 countries and territories, with direct flights from South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. Starting in October, the island will have additional direct flights from Hong Kong, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
For the upcoming year-end tourist season, Phu Quoc expects to receive 100 international flights weekly, an increase of about 25% compared to last year. Many experts believe that the continuous international media attention will help this “Emerald Island” become the tropical paradise that every traveler wants to experience.
